Before you buy anyone's shilajit

A lab report alone proves nothing.

A lab report can’t tell you whether shilajit is real. It only tells you whether the sample contains heavy metals. That’s a problem, because most of the shilajit sold today is synthetic, and anything cooked up in a lab will pass a heavy-metal test easily. It was never near a mountain.

So before you buy shilajit from any brand, ask for one thing: video evidence of their actual process, from the rock to the jar. If they can’t show it, ask yourself why.

Harvesting

Ask which rock face, at what altitude, in which month — and ask to see it. Ours is hand-scraped on ropes at 17,000–18,000 ft, and in a good season the teams carry close to 500 kg down one pack at a time. A brand that buys paste by the drum has nothing to show you.

Raw material

What comes off the mountain is stone with dark shilajit running through it, not a finished product. Quality shows before any lab test: thick, resin-rich seams with the rare golden-red shine. Most sellers have never seen their own raw material, because they never had any.

Filtration

Triphala first, then ultra UV, then nano filtration — about a week per batch. Two rules hold the whole way through: no heat, ever, and nothing artificial, ever. Rock and grit come out; the shilajit is never altered.

Sun-drying

The hardest step to fake, which is why it is the most useful question. Ours dries on open glass beds for 45–70 days, turned by hand. A fire-dried paste has no drying beds to photograph and no seventy days to account for.

What to expect, week by week

Two things on this page: what the resin is actually like to live with, and what people have traditionally taken it for. What you will not find is a promise about how you will feel on a particular day, because nobody can honestly make one.

  1. Day one

    It tastes like a mountain

    Earthy, bitter, faintly smoky. Dissolve a rice-grain portion in warm water and it turns deep golden brown. If it tastes sweet, or of almost nothing, what you have is not shilajit.

    Traditionally taken first thing, as a morning ritual rather than a pick-me-up.

  2. Week one

    The routine settles

    You find your own way: warm water or milk, morning or evening, the spatula under a hot tap when the resin has set hard. Most people stop measuring by day four.

    A natural source of fulvic acid and trace minerals, traditionally taken to support everyday energy.

  3. Month one

    The first jar runs out

    A 15g jar is about fifty daily servings, so month one is roughly one jar. This is the honest checkpoint: either the ritual has stuck or it has not.

Drying with heat does not give you the same product faster. It gives you a different product, finished in hours because hours are cheaper than weeks — and the label rarely tells you. Our resin takes up to seventy days, because that is how long the sun needs.

Warm the spatula under a hot tap and it will lift cleanly. In a cold room the resin sets firm; in a warm one it stretches. Both are normal, and resin that stays soft at every temperature has usually been cut with something.

At a 300mg serving, a 15g jar is about 50 servings — roughly seven weeks of daily use. The 30g is about double that, the 50g a little over three times.

Scooping, and keeping the jar clean. A steel spatula is included in the lid of every jar. Do not use a wet spoon — water left in the jar is the one thing that will spoil resin.

Sealed, at room temperature, out of direct sun. It does not need refrigeration, and refrigerating it only makes it harder to scoop.

That depends on what you are buying. A gummy is easier, and we sell those too. But a gummy also carries sugar, gelatin and flavouring, and the shilajit inside it is a fraction of a resin serving. This jar has one ingredient in it, and nothing else. If convenience matters more to you, take the gummies honestly. If what is actually in the jar matters more, take the resin.

Yes. Earthy, bitter, faintly smoky — and that is the correct answer. Real shilajit is a mineral resin, not a sweet. A version that tastes pleasant on its own has usually been sweetened or diluted to get there. Dissolved in warm water or milk it is mild enough that most people stop noticing within a week.
